"Where can I BBQ in Dubai?" is a bigger question than it sounds, because the answer is "in a designated spot, on a stand, and nowhere near the lake edge". Barbecuing at home is restricted in many buildings, and the desert has its own rules. Dubai Municipality manages public parks where barbecue areas are available, and Al Qudra is a different story entirely. This is general guidance, not legal advice. Rules can change, so follow posted signs and check the official sources linked below before you go.
Public parks with BBQ areas in Dubai
Press guides to Dubai barbecues consistently name a handful of municipal parks. We have not verified opening hours, fees or booking rules for 2026-27, and guides vary, so confirm on the Dubai Municipality website or at the gate.
| Park | What guides say |
|---|---|
| Mushrif National Park | A large woodland park with a big BBQ area. |
| Al Mamzar Beach Park | BBQ spots by the beach, along with picnic areas and a pool. |
| Zabeel Park | Designated BBQ areas spread through the park, with play areas. |
| Creek Park | Designated BBQ sites near the creek. |
| Safa Park | Often listed as a popular BBQ park with grills provided in places. |
| Jumeirah Beach Park | BBQ only in designated spots. Grilling on the sand is not allowed. |
| Hatta Hills Park | Described as a good BBQ spot, outside the city. |
Park BBQ areas generally mean marked spots, so the question to check each time is whether you may bring your own grill and charcoal or must use provided grills, and what the entry fee is. Sources do not agree, and some are years old. Check first. Our camping rules guide lists the official contacts.
What about Al Qudra? Is BBQ allowed?
Al Qudra is a favourite for bonfires and desert barbecues, which is why the rules are tight. Here is what we know:
- In December 2017 Dubai Municipality signs banned camping, bonfires and barbecues at Al Qudra Lake, with fines of AED 500.
- The municipality then clarified that a barbecue in a stand or pan, not on the sand, is acceptable.
- We have found no later official change, so the safe reading is: day-time BBQ on a stand, set well back from the water, the lake edge and any vegetation, and no overnight camping at the lakes.
- Open burning has been reported as fined at AED 1,000 in 2026 press coverage, and littering starts at AED 500.
There are no shops at the lakes, so everything has to come with you. Because rules can change and signs on the ground take priority, if a ranger or a sign tells you to stop, stop. For the lakes themselves read our lakes page and for the full rules picture the camping rules guide. With children? See the family guide first.
BBQ rules that apply everywhere
- Use a stand, a grill or a fire pit, never the bare sand or grass.
- Keep a safe distance from tents, cars, dry bushes and water. Published guidance puts firewood at least 15 feet (about 5 m) from tents.
- Never leave it unattended, and keep water close.
- Cool the charcoal fully before you bag it. Soak and stir the ash. Never bury hot coals.
- Take the ash, foil and rubbish home. Ghaf and other native trees are never firewood.
- Skip the fire on windy days. Embers travel far.
What to bring for a BBQ
- A grill or stand: charcoal grills run from AED 26 to 80 at Zad, foldable BBQs from AED 35 to 80, and disposable grills from AED 13.
- Charcoal: 3 to 5 kg suits a family of 4 to 6 (Mr. Charcoal 3 kg is AED 32, Flame On 4 kg is AED 37).
- Fire-starters: cubes or gel (AED 8 to 25). A lighter alone struggles in desert wind.
- Tongs, skewers and foil (tools from AED 5).
- Ice and a cooler: raw meat needs to stay cold. Ice is AED 15 a bag; buy it last.
- Water, a first-aid kit, wet wipes and bin bags.
- Chairs and a mat. Sand is hot by day and cold at night.
How much charcoal and ice you need is covered in our firewood and charcoal guide.
Ready-made BBQ kits from Zad
If you would rather not assemble a kit item by item, two pre-packed options are on the outings page and can be collected on your way in:
- Lake BBQ Box (AED 125, for 4 to 6): foldable BBQ grill, 3 kg charcoal, fire-starter gel, BBQ tongs and two bags of ice.
- BBQ Refill (AED 65): for people who already own a grill: 4 kg charcoal, fire-starter gel and a bag of ice.
Every item is also sold separately, and our camping and BBQ page has the full range with prices. Pre-order on WhatsApp with your pickup time and it is bagged and waiting.
Tips for a better, calmer barbecue
- Marinate at home and keep meat in the cooler until the coals are white.
- Light the fire 30 to 40 minutes before you plan to cook, in a wind shield spot.
- Go early on weekends. Desert and park spots both fill up on Thursday evenings through Saturday.
- Cook away from where children play, and keep the grill stable on hard ground.
- Check the weather, then check the sign at the gate.
